Earthworm Jim

This drink came around when we were failing to think of well-known games to launch our first menu, the self-imposed rules meant it had to be a game title but with a spirit pin, overhearing our woeful attempts a regular (Arthur Spear) threw out Earthworm Gin and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use that name and acknowledge the greatest worm in gaming history.

Ingredients

  • 50ml Gin
  • 10ml Lemoncello
  • Earl Grey Tea Bags
  • 10ml Sugar Syrup
  • 100ml Lemonade
  • Ice
  • Boston Shaker
  • Tea cup
  • Highball glass

Method

Start by brewing two tea bags with just 50ml of boiling water after 2mins add in the gin, Lemoncello and sugar syrup. Allow to brew for 2mins then strain leaving the bags behind into a shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled. Add this mix to a part filled glass of lemonade and add the lime wedge for garnish. Sip at your leisure while playing this full blast!

Bioshock Possession

We were lucky enough to get to sample the first 2 hours of Bioshock Infinite at the tail end of 2012 to gather data to use in creating real-world versions of the vigour’s consumed in the game.

The second of the creations was Possession, the main part might taste mellow with basil-infused gin but that absinthe foam isn’t to be taken lightly.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of Basil
  • 50 ml Tanqueray Gin
  • ½ Lemon
  • ½ Lime
  • 25 ml Sugar Syrup
  • Strainer
  • Blender
  • Ice
  • Tumbler Glass
  • Absinthe Froth recipe (Serves 4)
  • 25 ml Absinthe
  • 1 Egg White
  • 25 ml Water
  • 25ml Sugar Syrup

Method

Add a lot of Basil and Lemon half into a cocktail shaker and muddle the two heavily. Next, add a shot of sugar syrup to the mix, then add in the Tanqueray gin double measure, fill to the top with ice and shake vigorously. Finally, strain and use a small sieve forcing any remaining liquid out of the ingredients. The gin should have taken on a nice green tint. Serve in a rocks glass with fresh ice. Add some Absinthe froth to the top of the drink.

To make the froth, combine the ingredients in a blender and whisk until foam forms, skim some off and add to the top of the drink. Serve with a fresh basil leaf.

The Game

During this conflict, Booker learns that Elizabeth possesses strange powers to manipulate “Tears” in the space-time continuum that ravage Columbia, and soon discovers her to be central to the city’s dark secrets.

Elder Scrolls Skyrim

What comes first, the drink or the pun? In this case, the name certainly came first. This was created as part of our Guardian Games of the Year 2011 recipes, this has been on the menu ever since and seen almost as many re-releases as Skyrim itself, here’s our current recipe for Elderflower Scrolls Skyyrum.

Ingredients

  • 30ml Skyy vanilla vodka
  • 25ml Spiced rum (Sailor Jerry)
  • Orange peel
  • 175ml Sparkling elderflower presse
  • Sugar
  • Saucer
  • Ice
  • High-ball Glass

Method

First, create a sugared rim by rubbing the lime wedge around the lip of your high ball glass, dip this into a saucer with 5ml of the vanilla vodka, and then into a plate of sugar. Now put ice into the glass and pour in the remaining vanilla vodka & 175ml of the presse down the side (the inside, of course). Add a measure of spiced rum on top of that, and garnish with an orange peel/dragon’s tongue.

The Game

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main instalment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide on November 11, 2011.

The game’s main story revolves around the player’s character, the Dragonborn, on their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The game is set 200 years after the events of Oblivion and takes place in Skyrim, the northernmost province of Tamriel. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open-world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

The Game

Alien: Isolation is a 2014 survival horror video game developed by Creative Assembly Based on the Alien science fiction horror film series, the game is set 15 years after the events of the original 1979 film Alien, and follows engineer Amanda Ripley, daughter of Alien protagonist Ellen Ripley, as she investigates the disappearance of her mother.

Unlike previous game adaptations of the Alien franchise, Alien: Isolation places an emphasis on stealth and survival horror gameplay, requiring the player to avoid and outsmart a single Alien creature with tools such as a motion tracker and flamethrower. It was designed to resemble the original film rather than its more action-oriented 1986 sequel Aliens, and features a similar lo-fi, 1970s vision of what the future would look like.

Bioshock Devils Kiss

We were lucky enough to get to sample the first 2 hours of Bioshock Infinite at the tail end of 2012 to gather data to use in creating real-world versions of the vigour’s consumed in the game.

Part of a set this is our Devils Kiss giving the drinker the power of flame and potentially a nasty hangover. The picture featured a glass-coated in latex to look like burning wrists, having still not fully cleaned up the mess we’d recommend skipping that part of the creation.

Ingredients

  • 25ml Spiced Rum
  • 25ml Chambord
  • 10ml Grenadine
  • 15ml Overproof Rum
  • 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 50ml Cloudy Lemonade (carbonated)
  • 50ml Ginger Beer
  • Lime
  • Cinnamon
  • Ice
  • Saucer
  • Lighter or matches
  • Highball Glass

Method

Fill a high ball glass with ice, pour in grenadine, Chambord and dashes of bitters to begin. Carefully pour in cloudy lemonade and ginger beer down the side of the glass leaving the grenadine sitting in the bottom, add the juice of a lime and finish the drink with a shot of Spiced Rum to the top. To serve place drink on a saucer and place the measure of overproof rum around the base, light with a match and begin to flick cinnamon onto the drink/flame, extinguish, add a straw and serve. Anyone looking to savour every last drop can drink the rum left in the saucer when it’s cooled.

What to Drink?

Since 2010 there’s been a whole bunch of drinks served up over the different bars over the years, some have been around since the beginning and covering everything from Assassin’s Mead to Zelda we’ve put together a whole host of our recipes for you to recreate.

The template for which drinks we create tend to be around established titles and cocktails/spirits, so Earthworm Gin, Assassins Mead this isn’t always the case but is why you don’t see us making drinks around items/in game events.

Ingredients

  • Terrible Puns
  • Approval from publishers
  • Will Edgecombe photography

Method

Most things can be switched up so if you don’t have Absolut, for example, no problem, another vodka is great.
If you end up creating any of these yourself let us know how it went or tag the finished results with #LoadingBarFromAfar
You can use the drinks however you fancy but please don’t monetize or remove any credits attached.
