Bioshock Possession

“With POSSESSION, the free will of your enemies matters no more. Make your foes blindly fight and die for you.”

We were lucky enough to get to sample the first 2 hours of Bioshock Infinite at the tail end of 2012 to gather data to use in creating real-world versions of the vigour’s consumed in the game.

The second of the creations was Possession, the main part might taste mellow with basil-infused gin but that absinthe foam isn’t to be taken lightly.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of Basil
  • 50 ml Tanqueray Gin
  • ½ Lemon
  • ½ Lime
  • 25 ml Sugar Syrup
  • Strainer
  • Blender
  • Ice
  • Tumbler Glass
  • Absinthe Froth recipe (Serves 4)
  • 25 ml Absinthe
  • 1 Egg White
  • 25 ml Water
  • 25ml Sugar Syrup

Method

Add a lot of Basil and Lemon half into a cocktail shaker and muddle the two heavily. Next, add a shot of sugar syrup to the mix, then add in the Tanqueray gin double measure, fill to the top with ice and shake vigorously. Finally, strain and use a small sieve forcing any remaining liquid out of the ingredients. The gin should have taken on a nice green tint. Serve in a rocks glass with fresh ice. Add some Absinthe froth to the top of the drink.

To make the froth, combine the ingredients in a blender and whisk until foam forms, skim some off and add to the top of the drink. Serve with a fresh basil leaf.

The Game

Released in 2013 BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter video game developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games.

The game is set in the year 1912 and follows its protagonist, former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, who is sent to the airborne city of Columbia to find a young woman, Elizabeth, who has been held captive there for most of her life. Though Booker rescues Elizabeth, the two become involved with the city’s warring factions: the nativist and elite Founders that rule Columbia and strive to keep its privileges for White Americans, and the Vox Populi, underground rebels representing the underclass of the city. During this conflict, Booker learns that Elizabeth possesses strange powers to manipulate “Tears” in the space-time continuum that ravage Columbia, and soon discovers her to be central to the city’s dark secrets.
