Bioshock Devils Kiss

“A civilized man has power over fire. A refined man handles fire with finesse: DEVIL’S KISS.”

We were lucky enough to get to sample the first 2 hours of Bioshock Infinite at the tail end of 2012 to gather data to use in creating real-world versions of the vigour’s consumed in the game.

Part of a set this is our Devils Kiss giving the drinker the power of flame and potentially a nasty hangover. The picture featured a glass-coated in latex to look like burning wrists, having still not fully cleaned up the mess we’d recommend skipping that part of the creation.

Ingredients

  • 25ml Spiced Rum
  • 25ml Chambord
  • 10ml Grenadine
  • 15ml Overproof Rum
  • 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 50ml Cloudy Lemonade (carbonated)
  • 50ml Ginger Beer
  • Lime
  • Cinnamon
  • Ice
  • Saucer
  • Lighter or matches
  • Highball Glass

Method

Fill a high ball glass with ice, pour in grenadine, Chambord and dashes of bitters to begin. Carefully pour in cloudy lemonade and ginger beer down the side of the glass leaving the grenadine sitting in the bottom, add the juice of a lime and finish the drink with a shot of Spiced Rum to the top. To serve place drink on a saucer and place the measure of overproof rum around the base, light with a match and begin to flick cinnamon onto the drink/flame, extinguish, add a straw and serve. Anyone looking to savour every last drop can drink the rum left in the saucer when it’s cooled.

The Game

Released in 2013 BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter video game developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games.

The game is set in the year 1912 and follows its protagonist, former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, who is sent to the airborne city of Columbia to find a young woman, Elizabeth, who has been held captive there for most of her life. Though Booker rescues Elizabeth, the two become involved with the city’s warring factions: the nativist and elite Founders that rule Columbia and strive to keep its privileges for White Americans, and the Vox Populi, underground rebels representing the underclass of the city. During this conflict, Booker learns that Elizabeth possesses strange powers to manipulate “Tears” in the space-time continuum that ravage Columbia, and soon discovers her to be central to the city’s dark secrets.
